BEAIVI DANS LA PRESSE

«After the little animation “Cinema” I saw “Beaivi” by Anette Niia, Frédéric Choffat and Christophe Chammartin. We hear the voice of a woman who wants to be Swede rather a Lapp – a desire for escape quite different from the exotic ones I mentioned earlier. Her grandfather uses reindeer to tell a creation myth story. The deers are filmed abstractly, the cinematography was the best in the whole festival – beautiful black and white like Murnau, a reminder that in the 1920s, Nordic filmmaking and the use of light by directors like Benjamin Christensen and Victor Sjöström was the best in the world. It’s this film which has the unforgettable shift of the reindeer’s eye. The almost subliminal intercutting of men bodies with these of the deer was divine.»
